Clean water is not just infrastructure, it is the foundation of daily life.
The Burlcore Foundation has successfully assisted in resolving a long-standing water crisis affecting the Mawero community in Busia, Uganda. The project delivered a comprehensive water and infrastructure programme that provides sustainable drinking water, supports daily household needs such as washing and cleaning, and protects the area from seasonal flood damage.
For years, residents of Mawero faced unreliable access to clean water, a challenge that affected health, daily routines and the wider wellbeing of the community. Recognising the scale of the problem, the Burlcore Foundation committed to a project that would not only secure a dependable water supply but also strengthen the area's resilience against the heavy seasonal rains that have historically caused flooding and disruption.

Built to last
Water supply and flood resilience, together
The completed works deliver clean, sustainable drinking water to the community, alongside a reliable supply for everyday domestic use including washing and laundry.
Mirroring the water infrastructure, the Foundation carried out civil engineering works specifically designed to manage excess rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding. By addressing both water access and water management, the project helps safeguard homes, farmland and roads during the heaviest seasonal rains.
A promise answered
The response from the community has been immediate and heartfelt. In a message sent to the Foundation's management team, a community spokesperson wrote on behalf of Mawero residents:
We forward our great vote of thanks to the entire management of the Burlcore Foundation. As the Mawero community, we thank you for solving our water crisis. The promise has been answered at the right time. Long live the Burlcore Foundation.
A lasting commitment
For the Burlcore Foundation, the Mawero project reflects a wider commitment to the communities it serves in Busia. The Foundation has continued to invest in local infrastructure and welfare initiatives, with further community programmes planned within the region.
Solving a problem like access to clean water is not just about infrastructure, it is about making a real, lasting difference to people's daily lives. We are proud to have delivered this for Mawero, and we remain committed to supporting the communities we work alongside in Busia.
