Burlcore Foundation enhances worker welfare with a new nutritional initiative.

The Burlcore Foundation has introduced a twice-weekly nutritional support programme for workers at the local mining site in Busia, Uganda, with fresh food sourced directly from vendors at the Busia local market.

The initiative supplements the daily on-site provisions with fresh produce twice a week, prioritising energy-dense and protein-rich items suited to long working shifts. Purchases are made from vendors in the Busia local market, keeping spend inside the local economy and supporting the farmers and traders who supply it.

The programme is designed to be simple, consistent and measurable, and to grow as the Foundation deepens its relationship with local suppliers. Feedback from workers is gathered informally each week to guide what is purchased next.

Better food on shift means healthier, happier teams, and every shilling stays in Busia. Backing our workers and backing the local market at the same time is exactly the kind of practical, everyday impact we want the Foundation to be known for.
